1) Training
a) Keep Committee members informed about upcoming training opportunities, especially those offered by BCR.
2) Metadata
a) Keep up with developments from the metadata task force that is to be appointed by the Digitization Committee to prepare “rule interpretations” for the Western States Dublin Core Metadata Best Practices standards.
b) Discuss integrating digital metadata into our collections.
3) Electronic resources
a) E-book vendor records – Continue surveying the institutions that have loaded e-book records, then make the results available on the Cataloging Committee web site, so those working with the same records can consult/contact each other.
b) Web site and electronic resource cataloging – Continue discussing the need for and issues involved with including web site and other electronic records in the online catalog, especially records pertaining to Utah.
4) UALC union list of serials
a) Continue experimenting with automatic batch loading updates of serials holdings on OCLC.
b) Develop a plan for institutions to update their serials holdings on OCLC, once OCLC is ready for new batch projects.
5) Cataloging issues
a) Time spent cataloging electronic vs print vs metadata, etc. - Consider the proportion of time spent in cataloging various kinds of materials in relation to the value of the work to our users.
b) Other current issues - Discuss current issues, as the need arises (e.g., new cataloging code, FRBR, etc.).
6) User surveys
a) Look at user surveys of the online catalog to determine how users search and whether the elements of the catalog of use to them correlate with the time spent by catalogers in developing those elements (e.g., subject terms, keywords, descriptive information, etc.).
b) Consider doing additional user surveys, locally, if needed.
